Over 9 out of 10 secondary schools in England and Wales are comprehensive. The percentage of children getting 5 or more GCSEs at grade C has doubled and the percentage going into higher education has trebled since comprehensive education was introduced for the majority of the country. Fewer children from Trafford get two or more A-levels than in comparable neighbouring boroughs. Whenever a council has tried to reintroduce the 11+, there has been overwhelming opposition from parents. Many countries including Denmark, Japan, Norway and Sweden do not have selective school education. |
